Treasure Box

Hi everyone

Thanks everyone for all your comments on my last post, much appreciated!

And the crochet squares are indeed, as Little Blue Mouse suggested, destined to be made into a box - to hold a square box of tissues.  Something pretty with a nod to usefulness!  I only have one square left to do.  Will post some pics when it is done.

In and amongst my rather chaotic life I sometimes get time for a little browse around our local Flea Market, which is held each Friday in our market place.

And as I was browsing I happened to come across this

I don't know the technical name for it but to me it is a folding workbox.  And it is so spacious inside, lots of room for buttons...

 Fabric...

 and threads...

Here it is fully opened (excuse the kitchen paraphernalia in the background!)

I love the fact that it is so nice to look at, but also very pleasing to use.  And it was very cheap too - bonus!!

What has been your most recent thrifty treasure?  I would love to hear about it!

Scandinavian inspired Felt Heart

Hi everyone.

I have been feeling so inspired by all things Scandinavian just recently.  I have treated myself to a couple of books, found some lovely blogs and just generally mooched about the internet getting ideas.  And I found that although I had thought that red and white were the main colour ways for that Scandi-look, in fact this is usually only the case for Christmassy things.  In fact, our friends over in Scandinavian usually go for lovely, light colours, icy blues, steely greys, snowy whites, etc.  And, although I usually go for those rich, warm, autumnal colours, I found that I like this icy-palette quite a lot.

So, feeling quite inspired I had a rumage around in my craft box and found some scraps of felt, wool, ribbon and buttons and started to play around.  This is what I ended up with...

I think Im going to replace the chinese lanterns with some white branches, would be a bit more in keeping with the colours dont you think?

Here is my new heart with one of the cross stitch hearts I made during the holidays, I think they go quite well together:

I have bought some steely grey wool felt to make some more hearts, will let you know how I get on!

Lucky me!

Hi everyone

Last week I was lucky enough to win a giveaway over at Chalky's World - and today, during a very difficult day at work I was so chuffed to receive this lovely parcel of goodies - beautifully wrapped:

And in just my sort of colours too!

This is what the first parcel contained, the photo doesnt really do them justice, the detail on these little buttons is amazing:

More buttons, with amazing butterfly and dragon fly shapes included amongst many others:

I love all things heart-themed, just look as these little sweeties:

Then this fantastic hand made notebook, complete with fabric heart on the front:  the cover is made from handmade paper too.  Sadly the light isnt great for taking photos, but there are little fronds of fern in the handmade paper

And then look what emerged next - a vintage crochet book!  Published at about the time I started crocheting, 1969

And just look at these fabulous crocheted wrist warmers (kindly modelled by my daughter)

Linda has really gone to a lot of trouble to check out my blog to see what I like,  Thanks so so much Linda for your kindness in sending all these wonderful goodies to me.

Fabric swap

Morning all!

Still catching up with everything since my enforced break from blogging - so here we are with the super fabric swap items I received from the lovely Jules at Teapot Cottage!

Look at the care she took over wrapping the goodies she sent to me:

And my goodness the contents were awesome!  Look at this lovely wooden heart:

These yummy ribbons will be put to good use I can assure you:

The fabric is absolutely super:

And how lucky am I?  Not just one fabric bundle, but two:

And just look at these buttons:

And all topped off with this beautiful card:

This is what I sent to my lovely swap partner:

Jules, I hope you liked my parcel as much as I loved yours- thanks so much for being such a lovely (and patient!) swap partner!

Sugary sweetness

Morning all!

Just sneaking in a few blogging minutes before the moonstruck household cranks into full swing!  I just have to say that I love getting up before everyone else and sitting with a cuppa checking into blogland.  Ah, the things that keep me happy....

Anyway, had a visitor yesterday and thought I had better make something to give as a gift...Im (quite surprisingly for me) into ice-cream pastels at the moment (must be all that sitting out in the garden, the sun is getting to me!) so had some strawberry pink felt in my crafty-bits box.  So I made this:

It had lots and lots of lavender inside so smelt divine

Loved doing the lace yo-yo, and of course another obsession of mine is buttons so I had a lot of fun rummaging through my button jars

And on the sugary sweetness front, just look at this plate of cakes my daughter and her friend H made last week:

These were served up to refresh my dear friend Sue and I on one of regular sewing get-togethers.  If you click here you can see an amazing creation that H made for her brother - a very talented (and, following the tone of this post I have to say a very sweet) young lady.

I made short work (after due admiring of the workwomanship) of this little beauty:

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, whatever it is you get up to!
