Surprise Visitor and Advent Calendar door 18

A couple of nights ago, I was pootling about in the kitchen making a pot of soup for dinner when one of my lads shouted to me "Mum, Santa Claus is outside!!"  Two thoughts sprung to mind - 1: what on earth was in his cornflakes this morning, and 2: it isn't Christmas Eve yet!!

On opening the door though, this is what met my eyes:

Yes, the big fella was visiting our street in his sleigh!!

As Rudolph and co. are being rested for the Big Night the sleigh was pulled by a Landrover...

And his helpers on this occasion was the Rotary Club of our town, raising money for local charities, including the local children's hospice.  Everyone in the street (kids from 1 to 92!!) came out, joined in the fun, and gave generously to the collectors with their buckets.  It was lovely to actually catch up with the neighbours who we don't see much of at this time of year.

It was quite nippy out though, so I thought the picture below would be a very apt one for today's Advent Door...

  2. That was such a nice, happy and jolly surprise. A fire truck typically will drive around our neighborhood sometime during the season with Santa onboard playing carols over the speaker. I haven't seen him yet but then again we've been away for a week so we might have missed Santa this year. Love your fireplace and tree. It looks so cozy there.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. We had similar round our way on Sunday night, but my photos didn't turn out too good, yours are great! x

  4. We had him here also, but I wonder how long this tradition will last, the carol singers seem to be a thing of the past and school nativity plays are frowned upon, sad to see our traditions fading away.

  7. Santa used to ride on a fire truck by our house in NY and hand out candy to the kids who would race out from various houses. Exciting! I love that your Santa collected funds for local charities :) xx
