A stroll around Stratford upon Avon

Good evening everyone, how nice it is to be back at home, nice and cosy - the weather has been much more seasonal today, and hasn't really got properly light.

Yesterday however we had a very pleasant afternoon in Stratford-upon-Avon, home of William Shakespeare.  This charming town is less than an hours drive away.  It was nice to see that even this late in the season there were a lot of people there, tourists from across the globe.  We had a lovely time wandering the streets, taking in the sights.  Are you ready with a cuppa as I share some photos with you? OK, here we go!

A bustling craft market led up to the doors of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre...

So many beautiful buildings that The Bard himself frequented ....

A lot of windows to gaze into, some showing items from times gone by...

some showing seasonal goodies...

and even the Bard himself peeking from behind the window pane...

I happened upon this lovely sewing shop, sadly closed as we visited on a Sunday.  They sell lovely sewing patterns, amongst lots of other goodies, I have drooled over their website on several occasions...

Lots of feathered friends up to entertaining antics on the River Avon...

The river is host to many interesting boats...

Another interesting building, if you look closely you can just make out the phrase "God Save the King" in very faint letters...

bit of a close up...
Lovely view of Shakespeare's final resting place across the river...

And, a light-bulb moment...

I think Stratford would be a lovely place to go with a dear friend and our daughters for a girly day out - lovely shops, including a sewing emporium, lots of photo opportunities - Sue, how about it??!!

  1. Firstly, why was a sewing shop closed on a Saturdays ? Surely, potentially the busiest day of the week. But, yes, yes, yes, its well time we went off on another jolly! Suexxx

    1. Hiya, the shop does open Saturdays, we visited on a Sunday. It looks lovely! xx

  2. Oh oh oh.. thanks for showing me a place I dream of seeing someday. Gorgeous photos and fantabulous architecture! *LOVE*
    ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. You would love it - hope you get to visit one day!

  3. Oh how exciting, you came to visit! Now if only you had come on a Monday, I would have given you the guided tour as I work at Sew Me Something on Mondays! Stratford is lovely, glad you had an enjoyable visit - we really must make a date and arrange a wee get together next time you plan to visit. And yes, it's a perfect girls day out 😊 xx

  4. How neat to live SO close to Stratford-upon-Avon! In southern Oregon, in Ashland, they have the Shakespeare Festival and I went there once when I was a lot younger. Needless to say we LOVE our (and your)William Shakespeare:) Thanks for sharing your trip with all of us.
    Blessings, Aimee

  5. It seems to be a very interesting place and also beautiful. Thanks for sharing ! have a nice day!

  6. Such a wonderful place to visit minus the sewing store being closed of course.
    Hugs to you,

  7. Hi - I'm so sorry I have only just looked at my blog - things have just been so busy and exhausting for the past month or so I have really neglected my blogging. I haven't forgot about our swap though and have been gathering bits and pieces - I hope to get it finished this weekend so will be ready to send it off sometime during the week. Can you email me with your address details - I didn't save them from our last swap. ( ). Linda xxx
