Advent Calendar door 7

Back in the day I can remember that the last couple of weeks leading up to Christmas the Post Office used to hire students to help out with deliveries.  Some days we would get at least a dozen cards posted to us.  My Darling Mum was under the strictest orders not to open any if they arrived while I was at school - Christmas Card Opening was my duty!  Also there was a delivery on Sunday.  Sadly nowadays with rising costs less people post Christmas Cards, which I think is a shame as it was a real treat to hear lots of them landing on the doormat.

So, I thought today in memory of the past glories of the Post Office I would use this photo I took of a Victorian post box (this is situated locally to me).  And no, I am not a child of Victorian times, but of the 1960s :)

These remind me of the clove studded oranges I often make - that reminds me, must buy more cloves!!  I love the scent of oranges and cloves at this time of year.  What is your favourite scent of the Festive Season?

Hello everyone, hope all is going well with your week. 

 

Thanks so very much to all of those of you who have commented on my Advent Calendar posts so far - I really do appreciate the time you take to do this.  I am always so pleased to read comments on the posts I write, and feel that I have certainly got to know a lot of people through blogging.  In order to celebrate this I thought I would have a little festive giveaway!

 

The giveaway is...

 

 

 ...one of my Festive lavender scented hearts.  I have chosen a wintry fabric, with berries and winter leaves...

 

 

This is appliqued by hand onto wool felt.  The heart has a little gingham loop for you to hang it up by.  The closing date for entries to the giveaway is next Tuesday, 9th December.  I will then (if more than one person enters that is!!) draw the names to chose the winner.

Advent Calendar door 1 - the fun begins!

Hello everyone!

I have decided to have a go at joining in Julie's Advent Calendar posts by posting a Christmassey-themed picture daily onto my blog.  Julie, like me and quite a few of us I should imagine, fondly remembers the days of non-chocolate advent calendars when looking forward to seeing a new picture each day as we opened each door was a real treat.

These pics can be ones we have taken, or from Google or Youtube.
