Hello everyone!
Quite a few blogs have talked about a granny square blanket challenge to keep crochet peeps busy this year - some are doing a granny square a day (too much for me I'm afraid) or one a week (much more realistic for me).
Many bloggers are going to crochet each square in a colour that matches their mood as they are working. This year I am trying to simplify as much as possible, and have committed to using up as much of my stash as I can. Therefore I have chosen colours from my yarn pile that make me feel calm - the washed out colours often seen in Nordic homes. Pale pinks and blues, greys in different shades (no improper comments here please ;) ) etc. So it is a mood blanket, but carried out in a way that will be a bit more suited to me.
Hazel has created a facility where those who want to get involved can link up their blogs - great idea!! I am off to link up shortly.
In the meantime, I have managed to make 9 squares this week while I am on holiday - this will give the project a jump-start, and will also buy a bit of time for those inevitable weeks when even one granny square is just too much to fit in.
If you are a fellow-crochet fan, why not give it a go?
Helenxx

ReplyDeleteI love this idea but just know that I will not keep it up. As I say I'm a bit of a butterfly hopping from one thing to another. I'll just watch yours grow instead. lol

I adore crochet but I know very well with my busy work schedule and the way it is constantly changing I'd never keep this. However as you say it is a great idea. The subtle pastel colours you are using are lovely;soothing!
ReplyDeletekeep well
Amanda :-)
I'm going to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to use up your yarn stash, join in a crochet challenge and end up with a blanket in the end xx
ReplyDeleteThose are really pretty. I've thought about doing something like this too.
ReplyDeleteI love your colour scheme x
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely colour scheme. I think I might just give this one a go! xxx
ReplyDeleteI might try to create a square a week with my Lucy Pack of yarn that is begging to become something, but I think I will be a lurker rather than a linker in the blanket challenge :) I still have not settled on a pattern for each square...not a promising start, but your squares are beautiful, Helen. Thanks for your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI started a granny square blanket years ago....it is still unfinished....probably not a good Idea to join you! Good luck with your squares though. xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea.. I've been wanting to participate but didn't want to go and buy more yarn. I have a blanket I started a while ago and I think I will try to coma square a week ( much more manageable for me also) and finish my blanket this way ....happy new year to you also!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like fun, but I am passing as I have knitted sweaters swirling around in my head just waiting to be made.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck,
Meredith
Great idea & love the soft colours you've chosen. Xx

I may ive this square a week thing a go too! Im have some other projects i want to do but feel it would be nice to join in!

Loving those colours too. I have taken part in a one square a day challenge before and it does really focus you. However your squares are huge - no wonder you cannot do one a day!! I am going to pledge to make 365 little hats for the innocent Big Knit this year - I have two so far, only 365 to go before the end of September!! (they do not take long though but still have to be fitted in around work and everything else) Good luck with the blanket, cannot wait to see it finished.
